Good, Night 2026

It’s a bright, collage-style poster with a yellow background. In the middle, big colorful cut-out letters spell “Good Night.” Above that, three people are connected by a rope. On the left, someone looks scared and is being pulled, in the center another person is covering their ears, and on the right someone is pulling the rope hard with a determined, almost angry expression. There’s a glowing light bulb above them, and at the bottom it says, “Lights on, lights off… will anyone sleep well?” The whole scene feels energetic and a bit tense, like bedtime isn’t going very peacefully.

Synopsis:

It’s bedtime—lights on or lights off?

Two friends can’t agree. One feels calm and safe in the dark, ready to fall asleep, while the other is afraid and needs the lights on to feel secure. As the night goes on, their disagreement grows, and both struggle to explain how they feel. What should they do—and how can they understand each other?

Good, Night. uses shadow puppetry to gently explore how children experience fear, comfort, and communication. Through the play of light and shadow, their thoughts and emotions come to life—turning worries into shapes, and imagination into stories on stage.

This simple yet heartfelt story invites young audiences to reflect on their own bedtime feelings, while learning about empathy, compromise, and the importance of listening to one another.

Paper Monkey Theatre and The Gleam House present Good, Night — a thoughtfully crafted shadow puppetry co-production that brings together tradition, innovation, and emerging artistic voices.

The Gleam House, a trio of young local artists, including Regina Foo, Jodi Thiele, and Isabelle Low, collaborates with Paper Monkey Theatre in a meaningful exchange that reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing and promoting the next generation of theatre practitioners within Singapore’s arts scene.

Through the poetic interplay of light and shadow, Good, Night offers a visually enchanting experience that highlights the unique artistic voices of these young creators. The production not only reimagines shadow puppetry for contemporary audiences, but also provides a platform for fresh talent to shine—engaging and inspiring young audiences with its imaginative storytelling and artistry.
