About Us

BILINGUAL CHILDREN PUPPETRY

Paper Monkey Theatre was inaugurated in April 2008. We are a unique bilingual puppetry theatre – a magical place where children and adults are educated, enlightened and entertained. The company is helmed by Artistic Director, Benjamin Ho, a well-known puppeteer and playwright in Singapore.

Since our inauguration, we have introduced thousands of audiences to the wonder and art of puppetry and have touched the lives of many through enchanting performances, curriculum-based workshops, as well as Digital Learning and Outreach Programmes.

We believe that our traditional Asian values should be preserved, especially in today’s ever-changing environment. Paper Monkey Theatre promotes and encourages these values through traditional and modern puppetry shows for children and families.

Keeping The Art of Puppetry

We want audiences to experience an exchange of varied art forms, ideas and cultures. This is expressed through our quality theatrical productions and collaborative works. We also conduct related enriching workshops and educational programmes.

We strive to develop a theatre space where children and families can enjoy sincere and magical performances. We make every effort to provide a cosy space for our audiences to watch puppetry up-close and grow to appreciate this unique theatrical art form. We endeavour to deliver an unforgettable collective experience where the audiences are reminded of our Asian culture and values.

Paper Monkey Theatre is a charity organisation since 2008, and supported by the National Arts Council under the Major Company Scheme for the period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2025.

Paper Monkey Theatre is a registered Institution of Public Character (IPC) under the charities act (CAP. 37) with effect from 2022 – 2024.

Schools & The Community

We believe that the arts offer a unique way to engage with one another. It allows us to-

  • Celebrate our similarities and differences in the multicultural society that we live in.
  • To explore our feelings and emotions across different stages of life.
  • To revisit and deepen our understanding of our Asian culture and values that define us.

With that, Paper Monkey Theatre produces performances and workshops that engage schools, arts groups, welfare groups and the community-at-large. Through these performances, we reflect together a deeper understanding of what it is to live in our ever-changing world. With you, we create shared memories among loved ones.

No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached is an annual mini festival organised by the Paper Monkey Theatre. The festival gathers reputable puppetry groups from across the world with the objective to foster exchange and interaction amongst puppeteers.

This also allows our local audiences to experience the various forms of puppetry through curated programmes.
